What we use
Cookies and similar browser storage (such as localStorage) let a site remember things between visits. We keep them to a minimum and split them into three groups.
Strictly necessary
These make the site work and do not need consent.
| Name | Purpose | Kept |
|---|---|---|
theme | Remembers light or dark mode | Until you clear it |
whatshoes-cookie-consent | Remembers your cookie choice | Until you clear it |
| Session cookie | Keeps you signed in, if you have an account | Until you sign out |
| Cloudflare security cookies | Protect the site from bots and abuse | Up to 30 minutes |
Analytics (with consent)
Google Analytics tells us which pages and features are used, through cookies such as _ga and _ga_* (kept up to 13 months). These cookies are set only after you accept in the cookie banner. Until then, Google Consent Mode sends limited signals without cookies.
Advertising (with consent)
If we show ads, they come from Google AdSense. Advertising cookies and personalised ads are used only with your consent; if you decline, any ads shown are not personalised. You can manage Google's ad personalisation at Google's ad settings.
Retailer cookies
When you click a shop link, our affiliate partner Skimlinks turns it into a tracked link, and Skimlinks, the retailer's own site and its affiliate network may set cookies to record that you came from us. Those are covered by the retailer's cookie policy, not this one.
Changing your mind
You can change your choice at any time from the cookie banner, or delete cookies in your browser settings. Blocking necessary cookies may stop parts of the site from working.
